Kanal A was launched in May 1991 and was the first commercial television station in Slovenia. It entered a phase of accelerated development in October 2000, when it joined the company PRO PLUS. Ever since the merger, the channel has become increasingly successful.

The station provides nationwide coverage, it broadcasts 24 hours a day, and in December 2010 switched to digital. The male focused channel attracts a large viewership and is the second most watched TV channel in the country with an average prime time audience share of 14 % in the primary target age group 18-54 (Q1 2015, AGB Nielsen Media Research).

Kanal A broadcasts local news, sports, movies and entertainment shows as well as international formats. The news format The WORLD on Kanal A (SVET na Kanalu A), broadcasts on weekdays at 18:00 and is the most viewed show in its time slot as well as among the most viewed daily contents in the country (AGB Nielsen Media Research).

Kanal A also live streams sporting events like the Moto GP, screens a program for car enthusiasts called The Steering Wheel (Volan), several popular international formats, top feature films and hit series. In 2015 Kanal A aired the popular daily reality show Big Brother and confirmed airing The Champions League (Liga Prvakov).
