Oleksandr Tkachenko was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1966. He graduated from Kiev State University with a degree in journalism. He began his career in 1987 as a host and co-writer of a youth show for the state television station, UT-1 (First Channel). From that time he worked as a journalist for the state TV Ukrainian company and Reuters News agency. From 1991 until 1997 he produced and hosted a number of award-winning political and talk shows.
Between 1996 and 1998, Oleksandr worked at Studio 1+1 as the News Director, during which time he successfully established an independent and high quality news service (TSN). From 1999 until 2005 Oleksandr was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Novy Channel, and during that time he transformed Novy Channel from a local city channel to the third most popular TV channel in Ukraine. Most recently, Oleksandr engaged in media investment and fiction production activities through his own company, New Studio. Oleksandr has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Odessa Film Studio since 2005.
Oleksandr is married and has a grown up daughter. His interests include football and traveling.
