Maxim Varlamov

Maxim Varlamov was born in the town of Vologda, Russia on May 20,1969 and shortly afterwards his family moved to Kiev in Ukraine, which became his native city. After finishing high school he was admitted to the School of International Law and Relations under Kiev National Shevchenko University, deemed to be one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in Ukraine and alma mater for a number of ranking Ukrainian diplomats.

Still a student, he founded his first Law Firm "Varlamov, Kravchenko & Partners", specializing in intellectual property rights and mass media rights. Having successfully graduated from the University in 1993 he took up a post graduate course focusing on what interested him most: mass media and intellectual property rights.

In 1995-1996, he carried out his internship at SACD, SACEM and SCAM, 3 major French companies representing authors and their works, which are professional associations collecting payments of artists’ rights and distributing the rights to the original authors, composers and publishers.

He has been employed by "Studio 1+1" since its inception, and was in charge of its legal registration during 1996. On January 1, 1997 when "1+1" first hit Ukraine's airwaves, Maxim Varlamov was appointed Head of its Legal Department and in 2002, he was appointed Deputy Director General of Studio 1+1. Pursuant to the Decision of the Studio 1+1 Supervisory Board he was promoted to the position of Director General, Studio 1+1 as of April 10, 2008.

He is fluent in English and French, is a great football fan and is happily married with a son of 3.
