November 21, 2006, Hamilton, Bermuda
Ronald S. Lauder and Central European Media Enterprises Ltd. (CME) (NASDAQ/ Prague Stock Exchange: CETV) have been honored with the 2006 International Emmy Directorate Award from the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences during the 34th International Emmy Awards held November 20, 2006 in New York City. The Award was presented by Richard Parsons, Chairman & CEO of Time Warner Inc., to Central European Media Enterprises (CME) and its Founder and Chairman Ronald S. Lauder for pioneering the development of independent television broadcasting in Central and Eastern Europe.
CME and its local partners operate thirteen networks in six countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Launched in 1994, CME pursued Ronald S. Lauder’s vision of bringing independent television broadcasting to the newly-democratized nations of the former Soviet bloc.
Ronald S. Lauder’s belief that television viewers in Central and Eastern Europe wanted an independent voice proved accurate beyond anyone’s expectations. Today, CME’s award-winning stations reach approximately 91 million people, in total, across the different regions where they operate. The company’s success in these countries is attributable to its business strategy, which is based on working closely with its local partners and placing an emphasis on broadcasting independent news and locally-produced programming. The company’s stations also ensure that all programming, including films and television series from around the world, is carefully tailored to national tastes, interests and cultures.
“On behalf of everyone at CME, I would like to thank the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for recognizing our achievement,” said CME founder and Chairman Ronald S. Lauder. “CME’s success has been and will continue to be directly related to the tremendous efforts of our local employees and the support of our viewers, making this award a reflection of the courage and strength of all the people of Central and Eastern Europe.”
