CME brings LA glamour to Eastern Europe
March 27, 2008, C21Media
Central European Media Enterprises (CME), the Central and Eastern European broadcasting company, has launched four new series in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
First up is The Hollywood Reporter, due to air on the new Czech film channel, Nova Cinema. The magazine programme provides inside information for everyone looking to keep up to speed with rapidly changing events in the film and television industries.
Continuing the theme, and again bound for Nova Cinema, The Red Carpet Reporter is a 30-minute magazine show that takes viewers behind the scenes in Hollywood, exposing almost all that it takes to for film stars to stay at the top of their game.
Nova Cinema, which launched in December last year, has also commissioned a third season of programming for made by students of Czech and Slovak film schools, titled the Night Of Film Chances project.
Across the border in neighbouring Slovakia, the CME-owned channel TV Markiza is set to broadcast a new crime series titled City of Shadows. CME claims the 10x60' programme, based on real crimes recorded in police archives, is the first original Slovak crime series in the country since the 1970s.
Commenting on the rise of Nova Cinema, TV Nova's general director, Petr Dvorak, said: "The programming schedule of this film channel has been designed so as to provide a large audience but mostly young viewers with what they find appealing and amusing.
"We strive to expand our programming offer further as the three new programmes, launched this month, only attest to. We are happy we are attracting younger audience and we will continue to pursue this strategy," said Dvorak, adding that Nova's current ambition is now to bring local programming to its audience.
