TV NOVA Film to Compete in the Berlin Film Festival
January 29, 2007, TV Nova
Notably, the selection committee at the Berlin Film Festival, being held February 8-18, 2007, has selected ‘I Served the King’ from hundreds of entries for the main competition. This film is the long-awaited adaptation of Bohumil Hrabal’s novel, ‘I Served the King of England’, a classic work of Czech literature.
This marks the second time in Mr. Menzel’s career that he will represent the Czech Republic in Berlin, one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. In 1990, Jiří Menzel won, (in a tie) the Golden Bear, the highest award in film at the Berlin Film Festival, for Skřivánci na niti (Larks on a String).
TV NOVA has produced a number of very popular Czech films including The Rafters, The Year of the Scoundrels and The Holidaymakers. Two years ago, Román pro ženy (From Subway With Love), a TV NOVA production won the Czech Lion audience award.
