September on Markíza

Televízia Markíza has just had its best month and also the best week since October 2004, i.e. the beginning of the “peoplemeter era” in Slovakia. The station’s September market share climbed to 35%, growing by 5.7% year-on-year, and the figures for last week of September (39th week starting Sep 25 and ending Oct 1, 2006) are even better – market share 36.5%, year-on-year growth 7.5%.
With such a large audience, Markíza attracts all target groups but September saw significant year-on-year growth in the target groups considered most attractive by advertisers:
12-49-year-old viewers achieved a market share of 35.3% and year-on-year growth of 5.2% - Markíza's market share in Women 12-49, the strongest sub-group of this category, is 37.9%. The groups that also grew in September include children (market share 35.2%, growth +3.8%) and seniors (market share 34.7%, growth +6.5%).
None of the daytime blocks (6:00 AM– 24:00) got under 30% in September; the working-day and weekend shares were 35.9% and 33.4%, respectively.
The new management team have significantly rebuilt the Monday programme structure – the prime-time items now include a new original entertainment window (two-weekly Vilomeniny and monthlies Hodina pravdy and Clever), a new series window (original series Susedia) and a current-affairs window (Paľba – investigative TV journalism, 112 – docu-soap). The results are stunning – the strongest working day was Monday, whose all-day share (38.7%) was the best since the launch of peoplemeters. Similarly, the Monday prime time share climbed to a record-breaking 42.1% in September.
With 22.3/76.7%, the overall market leader is Televízne noviny.
Markíza has come up with a number of new formats this autumn. Almost all of them are a success and are among Slovakia's most popular programmes:
Susedia 19.0/49.9% (Mo 9:00 PM, weekly, drama, record audience size 20.1/54.2%),
Clever 15.7/40.0%(Mo 8:00 PM, monthly, entertainment)
Nora a Braňo14.6/40.9% (Fri 8:00 PM, entertainment, weekly, record audience size 16.0/40.9%)
Of the top 30 programmes in the Slovak market, 25 are on Markíza and only five on competing stations.
