Nova TV wins the Miko Tripalo award for its news and current affairs program
March 25, 2010
Nova TV received the Miko Tripalo award for their contribution to the development of democracy, human rights and media freedoms in 2009. These acknowledgements are awarded by the Miko Tripalo Center for Democracy and Justice, which was founded in 2003 in order to promote European democratic ideas, values and criteria in Croatia. The award ceremony was held today in the foyer of the University of Zagreb, and the awards were presented by Stjepan Mesiæ, the honorary president of the Association of the Miko Tripalo Center for Democracy and Justice.
"With its reporting and the efforts of its journalists in the field, as well as through concrete actions, such as establishing public charities and help-lines for marginalized or disempowered citizens, the program of Nova TV reveals the harsh conditions in our society on a daily basis, but it also mobilizes the public to become directly involved in solving these issues," Josip Kregar, the president of the Center's board of directors points out. The official award report also states that, as a private television, Nova TV manages to present all current affairs to its audiences in a professional manner, by means of live, on-location feeds and independent guest speakers and experts who comment on political developments and issues.
On behalf of Nova TV, the Miko Tripalo award was accepted by Iva Gaèiæ, the director of the news program. She said, "Freedom is a wonderful thing but also a great responsibility. Just like this award, which all of us at Nova TV are very pleased about and thankful for. Our work has been excellently described in the explanation of this decision, and we will certainly continue promoting such values in the future."
