TV Nova is the biggest commercial television station in the Czech Republic and is one of the most successful and profitable commercial TV stations in Europe.
Launched in 1994, TV Nova was the first privately owned commercial network broadcasting throughout the Czech Republic. Shortly after its launch, it became the market leader in terms of the viewership, advertising revenues, usage of technology, design and graphics, marketing and PR, charitable projects and film co-productions.
Acquired by Central European Media Enterprises (CME) in 2005, TV Nova broadcasts 24 hours a day, reaching 99.5% of households. TV Nova provides the top rated programming on the Czech market through a mix of its own strong local fiction and non-fiction productions, foreign acquisitions, entertainment shows and its flagship main television news that generates, on average, 55% audience share in the 15-54 target group.
Some of the best performing shows on TV Nova in 2011 included the long running fiction series Rose Garden Medical Clinic (Ordinace v růžové zahradě) with an average audience share of 48.1%.
TV Nova believes that the key to attracting a majority of the Czech audience is to offer strong locally produced programs/shows, to use the highest quality broadcasting (Nova HD, Nova sport HD), and to offer viewers a proper choice of content through a range of niche channels which complement TV Nova. Keeping these key factors in mind, TV Nova succeeds in maintaining its high market share. During 2011, the TV Nova group of channels reached an average prime time audience share of 42% in the 15-54 target group.
TV Nova, as the leading channel in the Czech Republic, includes in its portfolio of advertisers multi-national corporations such as Proctor & Gamble, T-Mobile, Nestlé, Henkel, Laborotoires Garnier and Reckitt Benckiser.
The New Media division operates Voyo.cz , a video-on-demand service that offers content from TV Nova’s library through its catch-up TV system, access to sport and music events, live streaming and advanced previews of TV broadcasts. In 2011 advertising supported VOD in the Czech Republic contributed to Voyo’s revenues of US$1.7 million. A subscription model was also added Q1 2012.
The Deputy General Director of CME's operations in the Czech Republic is David Stogel.
