Slovenia - POP TV and Kanal A

POP TV and Kanal A are entertainment and amusement channels, which often represent company for lonely people, entertainment for the sick and consolation for deprived persons. From the very beginning, POP TV and Kanal A have donated advertising time, money and objects to numerous humanitarian organizations and projects, and have also helped many institutions and individuals with information and media support.

Highlights 2007

On 20 September 2007, the talk show Frictions entitled "Catastrophe: Slovenia Under Water" was hosted by Uroš Slak and Alenka Marovt live from Železniki and Podgorje near Letuš. POP TV showed the catastrophic consequences of the storm of Tuesday 18th Septmeber and in front of the cameras, the presenters talked to those people who had been hit worst by the storm. Only 350 houses in Železniki were damaged but the damage elsewhere, in Kropa, Škofja Loka, Cerkno, Letuš and Braslovče was enormous. POP TV and its Frictions team, in cooperation with the companies Telekom Slovenia, Mobitel and Simobil Vodafone, prepared a humanitarian campaign during the show in order to help people affected by the floods. The response of the viewers was exceptional, as a record number of telephone calls (more than 224,000) was received and the grand total of €94,093.44 was collected to help people in distress. During the live transmission the humanitarian campaign also received a response from the Maribor Electric Power Stations on the Drava River, who contributed €10,000, bringing the total sum of donations to €104,093.44. The organization Karitas will distribute the donations collected by POP TV to people needing help.

On 1st February 2007, the show Frictions on POP TV entitled "Missed: Will They Ever Come Back?" was hosted by Uroš Slak, and the guests spoke about missing persons and the success of searching. The father of Natascha Kampusch, whose daughter was missing for eight years, gave an interview for POP TV. POP TV with its Frictions Team and in cooperation with Telekom Slovenia, Simobil d.d. and Mobitel d.d. prepared a humanitarian campaign to collect funds for purchase of a lifesaving boat for the Diving Rescue Service of Ljubljana during the show. There was an excellent response from viewers of the show, and the amount of 17,609 € (4.192,700 SIT) was collected.

SAFE.SI – Campaign for the safe use of the internet for the children and youth of Slovenia.
UNICEF – Campaign for the collection of funds to prevent undernourishment in Ethiopia with the title: "We Promise We Will Defeat Famine. We Will Not Break Our Word".
FOUNDATION FOR HELP TO CHILDREN – Campaign "Health-safe School". Collection of funds for purchase of First Aid Kits for primary schools in Slovenia.
UNHRC – Campaign "Those That Have a Home - Love Their Home." upon the International Day of Refugees.
KINGS OF THE STREETS – A humanitarian campaign for the homeless.
ŠKUC – Campaign against homophobia.
UNICEF – collecting money for Madalits’o
KARITAS – humanitarian campaign of collecting money "For the Heart of Africa"
