Slovenia - POP TV and Kanal A

POP TV and Kanal A, are entertaining and amusing channels, which often represent company for lonely people, entertainment for the sick and consolation for the deprived persons. In the public, since the very beginning, POP TV and Kanal A have been positioned as a socially responsible brands with numerous sponsorships, free announcements and donations to various organisations (Unicef, Red Cross, Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth, etc.). POP TV and Kanal A also regularly promote social and humanitarian causes through their own television shows.

Highlights 2009

Pro Plus (the parent company of POP TV and Kanal A) typically supports two campaigns every month, with numerous free adverts spots and on television and its web sites with banners. 2009 brought many community based campagins raising awareness for a improved way of life for those less fortunate. In 2009, Pro Plus was involved in campaigns such as, The Red Noses campaign aimed to raise funds for clowns entertaining children with cancer; Svit, a programme to test for early detection of colon cancer;and Wipe the Tears of the Sick Hero, donations for underprivillaged children in Slovenia.

Recipients of international organizations included such as UNICEF, Amnesty International, Council of Europe, UNHCR, European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD), International Coalition Against Wildlife Trafficking (CATW), SAFE.SI (Europe's Information Society), and SILA (Slovenian International Ladies Association).

In terms of raising awareness about differences in our community, Pro Plus assisted on many fronts, including; the Centre for Autism, with the 1st Festival of Autism and Art - a Voice of People with Autism, the Bravo Society, a campaign for recognizing the best teacher making significant  efforts in their work with dyslexia children, and the Management of Diversity in Employment, to decrease discrimination in employment.

With respect to the enviorment, Pro Plus in cooperation with the organizers of “You are Energey, be Efficent”,the Jožef Stefan Institute, and Centre for Energetic Efficiency ran an awareness campaign for home energy efficiency in October 2009. The campaign featured well-known faces of the company - Alenka Arko (Confirmed!), Gorazd Žilavec (It’s Nice to be a Neighbour), Maja Sodja (24HOURS), Marko Potrč (The World) and Alenka Mirt Iskra (24HOURS). The key messages of the campaign were the use of economic light bulbs, economic domestic appliances, and proper management of home heating and energy useage.  Pro Plus also created an Internet website, Energija.si – launching a campaign to  be efficient. Users were encouraged to use the website and calaculate their usage, thanks to a special web application to calculate their overall CO2 emissions.

POP TV AND UNICEF FOR CHILDREN OF THE WORLD

Slovenia now has 6,830 UNICEF's Parents of Children of the World. On the evening of Saturday December 22, 2008 POP TV's viewers enjoyed an entertaining charitable TV show entitled "This Small Country". Prepared by UNICEF Slovenia and POP TV, the show and its audience demonstrated again that Slovenia is a country that really has a big heart. During 120 minutes of laughter and tears the hosts, Pia Zemljič and Marko Mandić and other famous Slovenians answered phone calls and internet applications by as many as 2,813 viewers, who wished to become a part of the UNICEF's family of Parents of the Children of the World. In addition, as phone lines were too busy, more than 6,000 viewers left their applications on the electronic answering machine. On that December Saturday evening the hosts Pia Zemljič in Marko Mandić, Parents of the Children of the World themselves, led the viewers of This Small Country into a world of fun and emotions. Testimonies by the UNICEF Ambassador for Western Balkans, actress Milena Zupančič, and national ambassadors Lado Leskovar, Vita Mavrič and Marko Simeunovič as well as reports from the crisis hit area of Africa confirmed that there are two sides of one world and children are the most vulnerable to that. President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Danilo Türk, sent a special letter, in which he emphasized the significance of UNICEF's help to children. The viewers were invited to donate by David Beckham, Whoopi Goldberg, Robbie Williams and Ewan McGregor, international Goodwill Ambassadors, who visited Slovenia.

FAREWELL OF “DEAL OR NO DEAL” IN FESTIVE DECEMBER WITH CHARITABLE SHOW FEATURING FAMOUS SLOVENIANS

Zmago Batina, host of popular show Deal or No Deal on POP TV will be remembered by children from the Pediatric Clinic in Ljubljana, after POP TV and the show’s winner, singer Tejči, donated €35,000 to them.

In the last show of the series of Deal of No Deal on POP TV, which was broadcast on December 13, 2008, Zmago entertained 24 famous faces. His invitation was generously accepted by well known musicians, anchors, athletes and actors. They enjoyed opening the boxes during the show since they were moved by Zmago's decision to donate the award for charitable purposes. The singer Tejči found herself in the hot seat and was struggling hard to win the main prize. At the end she succeeded in collecting €35,000 for charitable purposes and together with POP TV she donated that sum to the Pediatric Clinic in Ljubljana.

Children from the Clinic were more than happy to receive such donation, happiness was also present in the eyes of Tejči and Ciril Kržišnik, M.D., Professional Director of Pediatric Clinic.

Ciril Kržišnik, M.D.: "The donation of PRO PLUS and Tejči is more than welcome as it will be spent on the acquisition of the magnetic resonance machine, for which the Institution for New Pediatric Clinic has already collected more than 1.200,000 euro - we need twice that sum in total. The management of the Pediatric Clinic sincerely thanks PRO PlUS and Tejči on behalf of all the children who will need the machine for such a significant donation."

MORE THAN 17.000 EURO COLLECTED FOR HUMANITARIAN PURPOSES BY FRICTIONS

During the talk show FRICTIONS on 18 December 2008 with the title „Brutal Murder in front of the eyes of Children„ hosted by Uroš Slak we showed the catastrophic consequences of the murder of the mother of two young children in Ormož. POP TV and its Frictions Team, in cooperation with the companies Telekom Slovenia, Mobitel and Simobil Vodafone, prepared a humanitarian campaign during the show, in order to help children who are left living alone. The response of the viewers was excellent and the amount of €17,902 was collected to help two little -seven and four years -old children.

PRO PLUS also donated advertising money with free advertising during the year 2008 and supported several organizations and projects with free advertising on POP TV , Kanal A and 24ur.com. Recipients included international organisations such as UNICEF and Amnesty International as well as local institutions such as Društvo Paraplegikov (Paraplegic Association) and Zavod za Slepo in Slabovidno Maldino (Institution for Blind and Visually Impaired Yund People), amongst many others.
