Czech Republic - TV Nova
The Nova group has a very strong tradition of being dedicated to charitable work, so much so that it created the
Nova Foundation which supports social, cultural and health related activities. In 2010 the foundation celebrated
its 10th anniversary of supporting a long list of charities and community action groups.
One of its greatest achievements is the ‘We Want to Live with You’ event, a huge music concert arranged for people with learning difficulties. It started in 1995 and the crowd has grown every year. In May 2011 over 6500 challenged children from all over the country filled an O2 Arena for an evening of music and laughter. TV Nova’s biggest stars and well known musicians all lent their time for free to entertain them.

In November 2010 Nova held the fourth ‘Exercise with Hanka and Nova’ sports and dancing event for children from children´s homes all over the country with popular fitness trainers and Nova TV Stars. It aims to improve self confidence and help children better integrate into society. Almost 400 children from 29 children’s homes around the country participated. It also received full online support from nova.cz, tn.cz, doma.cz. Also in 2010 support was extended to Natama which tries to match children with foster carers.
Since 2007 Nova has had an ongoing co-operation with the Czech committee of UNICEF. Providing media support for awareness campaigns about children in areas armed conflict or natural disaster. It collects donations and last year took part in organizing a travelling exhibition of photographs UNICEF Tour 2010/2011. It also supports other humanitarian causes such as helping victims of the Japanese earthquake and providing financial support for those affected by the 2010 floods in the Czech Republic.
Named after a TV Nova employee who was shot dead in 2005 in Prague, the ‘Michal Velisek Award’ is a project which strives to fight against human indifference and recognizes people who have risked their own lives to save others. In 2010 it was awarded to a couple who saved their aunt after she was brutally stabbed by her boyfriend.
TV Nova regularly holds a wide range of cultural events and festivals and supports other charities such as the fight against cancer, charity fashion shows, and Czech and Slovak film schools for students and festivals of culture such as the Czech-German Jewish festival ‘Nine Gates’.
